Richard Posner

Richard Posner was born on the Upper West Side of Manhattan but grew up in Far Rockaway, a beachfront community in Queens, New York. At the age of 14, he was sending stories to pulp magazines and they were sending the stories back.

After a few years as a graduate student at Queens College, Posner went to work for the Scott Meredith Literary Agency, who represented both major writers—Norman Mailer, Arthur C. Clarke, Evan Hunter—and many pulp writers. With The Godfather a bestseller, he wrote The Mafia Man for Gold Medal Books to capitalize on the craze, and followed up with other crime novels. He then moved on to gothic romances, then big juicy novels, and eventually young adult fiction.
