Bill Schelly

Bill Schelly wrote several biographies of film and comics artists, including comedian Harry Langdon and comic book writer Otto Binder. In 2008, he authored Man of Rock, a biography of Joe Kubert, followed by The Art of Joe Kubert (2011) and Weird Horrors and Daring Adventures (2012). His American Comic Book Chronicles: The 1950s (2013) was nominated for a Harvey Award. In 2015, his Harvey Kurtzman, The Man Who Created Mad and Revolutionized Humor in America won the Will Eisner Comics Industry Award for Best Comics-Related Book.

Schelly first rose to fandom fame in the late 1960s as publisher of the popular fanzine Sense of Wonder. He later became associate editor of Roy Thomas’ Alter Ego magazine. Schelly died on September 12, 2019.
